I started as an apprentice to my Father in January 1963, completing in January 1968. I took an opportunity in 1969 and went to Papua New Guinea for nine months where I looked after a gang of native painters, the biggest project was the painting of the new Travellodge Motel in Rabaul. 1971 I joined my Father in a partnership which would last for over thirty years. I first became interested in Natural Paints in 1996 when I joined the " Alternative Technology Association and saw an article about Natural Paint in their Soft Technology Magazine now called "Renew" and it has grown ever since along with the rest of me and my environmentalism. I find Natural Paint a joy to work with, the smell is mild and pleasant, just a hint of citrus. The interior of a house can be very toxic with offgasing of paint, carpet, furniture, so if we can limit that gas life has to be better. The other advantage is that the Natural Paint manufactuers proclaim on the paint can or Product disclosure sheets what it is made from. Natural Paint, depending on which manufactuer has extremely little or no VOC's ( Volitile Organic Compound) which for Allergy suffers can be upsetting or even FATAL. I have been a member of the Master Painters Association for more then 40 years. I gained a Highly Commended award in 2009 from the Master Painters for a new house which the whole interior was finished with natural paints. A little bit more about myself , Besides belonging to ATA I am also with Australian Solar Energy Society who conduct Sustainable House Day and I have had my house open for all to see as I have a power station onthe roof with Photovoltalics and Solar Hot Water, Double Glazed Windows, Water Tanks. I also belong to Rotary Club of Hurstville being a Past President. I have volunteered with Rotary and travelled to The Philippines in 2008 and helped paint a community centre.
